What is required to get a license in Wisconsin?
For salespersons:
- Complete the form and apply online.
- Complete the board-approved 72-hour pre-license education program for salespersons within the past four years or complete 10 semester hour credits in real estate or real estate-related law courses from an accredited institution of higher education.
- Real estate examination successfully completed.
- Fees: Examination Fees (Salesperson: $82). License (Salesperson: $75).
For brokers:
- Complete the application form and apply online.
- Education requirements:
- Completion, within 4-years of Broker’s licensure, of real estate Broker’s education program in business management under Wis. Admin. Code § REEB 25.023 through an education program that has been approved by the Board and evidence of licensure as a Real Estate Salesperson for at least two (2) years within the last four (4) preceding years under the direct supervision of a licensed Broker and have accumulated 40 points of experience.
- Completion of non-resident Broker equivalency under Wis. Admin. Code § REEB 25.028.
- Copy of transcript showing 20 academic semester hour credits completed at an institution of higher learning in real estate or real estate
related law. A quarter hour credit equals 2/3 of a semester hour credit. - Evidence that you are licensed to practice law in Wisconsin.
- Real estate examination successfully completed.
- Fees: Examination Fees (Broker: $76). License (Broker: $75).
What score do I need to pass?
The salesperson exam consists of 140 items. To pass, you must get a minimum score of 75 over 100.
The broker exam consists of 100 items. To pass, you must get a minimum score of 75 over 100.
You will receive your score immediately after you complete your exam.
How much time do I have to complete the exam?
For the salesperson exam you are allowed 4 hours to answer.
For the broker exam you are allowed 3.25 hours
What should I bring with me for the exam?
- 2 Forms of identification with matching names, non-expired and containing a valid signature, one of them must be photo bearing (Driver’s license, passport, green card, U.S. social security card, debit or credit card with signature).
- Basic, silent, non-scientific calculator.

The exam is given on a computer and is multiple choice.
